The birth of our Lord.

- cycle B -

Theme:

That the children understand that the birth of Jesus lights up and give meaning to our lives.

Put the following drawing on the notice board. Decorate the room the figures of Jesus, Mary and Joseph. The catechist can organize a little party with snacks for the children.

Dear children, today we are celebrating Christmas.

Christmas is a time when God comes to his people. We should be joyful and ready to carry the message of Jesus to our families and friends.

-Have you remembered the commitment made in family?

-Have you prayed to the Virgin Mary asking her to help you to prepare for the coming of Jesus at Christmas time during this week?

Dear Jesus today we celebrate your coming to the world. Make us understand the meaning of this so that we can carry you to all who we meet during this season. Thank You for loving us. Thank you Mary for being Jesus’ mother. Thank you Joseph for taking care of Jesus as a good Father. Thank You God the Father for your son Jesus.

Everyone should sit on the floor around the crèche. Before hand the catechist would have prepared a child dressed as an angel who would say these words to those present: TODAY I ANNOUNCE ON BEHALF OF GOD THIS GREAT NEWS: FROM THE BEGINNING OF TIME GOD WAITED FOR THIS MOMENT TO SEND HIS SON OUR SAVIOR TO THE WORLD TO BRING US PEACE. AFTER TWO THOUSAND YEARS, TODAY WE CELEBRATE THAT JESUS IS WITH US AND WE RENEW OUR FAITH IN HIM.

Gospel: Luke 2,1-14

AND it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all athe• world should be btaxed•. (And this ataxing• was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.)And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city. And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called aBethlehem•; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:) To be taxed with Mary his aespoused• wife, being great with child. And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered. And she brought forth her afirstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the binn•. And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the aglory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.

And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you agood tidings of great bjoy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is aborn this day in the city of David a bSaviour, which is Christ the cLord. And this shall be a asign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,aGlory• to God in the highest, and on earth bpeace, good will toward men.

-Everyone remains in the same position around the crèche.

-According to what we have heard, what has caught your attention?

-What can we do to please Jesus in this season?

In the crèche, Jesus is a baby wrapped in cloth and lying in a manger, Mary and Joseph are in a barn because there is not room in the inn. A few weeks ago we read the gospel where Jesus said “ I was hungry and you gave me to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me to drink, a I was sick and you visited me, I was in jail and you visited me, I was a foreigner and you gave shelter, I was naked and you dressed me”. Each and every Christmas we should not be happy only having parties. For us Christians, Christmas is more that. It a time to get closer to Jesus, getting closer to our neighbors, helping them and sharing with them. We should speak to our parents about the commitment we made in family at the beginning of advent, so that we can help and serve the poor. May Jesus, Mary and Joseph find a place in our heart full of peace and love. A Holy and a Happy Christmas to everyone.

Everyone standing up and holding hands sings Silent night.

The child dressed as an angel, takes the baby Jesus kisses it and passes it to the other children. Finally the catechist shares the snacks with everyone. After sharing everybody prays: Dear Jesus, You came to us and we thank You, we are happy to have You with us. We would like to share the joy You give us with others. We asks You to help all the children who have not celebrated your birthday.

Jesus, Happy Birthday.
