The Ascension of Our Lord

cycle B

Theme:

The apostles obeyed Jesus’ command.

That the children understand that to love Jesus as the apostles did, is to do what Jesus has told us.

The following words in big letters on the notice board:

“GO INTO ALL THE WORLD AND PREACH THE GOSPEL TO THE WHOLE CREATION.”

Dear children, Jesus gave his life for all but He wants us to help Him in the mission of carrying the good news of the gospel to everyone. We cannot go to Jesus alone, we all have to carry others to Jesus. How can we do that? If we are in union with Jesus, He will tell us how.

-Have you helped at home putting things in their place, cleaning what is dirty, helping others without waiting for payment in return, just as Jesus would have done it?

-Have you prayed for the children of infant missionary so that they may live in God’s love?

Dear Jesus, You have done what the Father wanted of You. Help us to do the same. Accompany us on our life’s journey, You are the most important in our lives. Help us to carry You to others, speaking of You with faith and love. Help all the missiomaries in the world to be faithful and happy in their work, Amen.

The catechist will prepare a world map and divide it in as many parts as the number of dhildrenin the group. He or she will give a part to each child and ask the child to color his or her part, then the children will put the pieces together to form the world map. The map will be placed in the center of the room.

He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation. 16Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. 17And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; 18they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well." 19After the Lord Jesus had spoken to them, he was taken up into heaven and he sat at the right hand of God. 20Then the disciples went out and preached everywhere, and the Lord worked with them and confirmed his word by the signs that accompanied it.

-What did Jesus tell his disciples to do?

-What is needed to do all those wonderful things that Jesus spoke about?

-What did Jesus after He spoke to His disciples?

God the Father, because He loves us very much, wants us to be always willing to help others to get to know Him. It is very sad to know that there are some people who stay by themselves and want to be saved alone they do not listen to Jesus’ command. We have to be careful not to be like those people. Jesus must always be our model. He gave up his life to save us. Ther are many ways of giving up your life for others and because of this we should listen to the voice of the Holy Spirit. Jesus is counting on us in his plan to save others.

Every child will receive a piece of paper on which he or she will write his or her name when told to. The catechist will tell the children to think about a place in the world that he or she would like to carry the message of Jesus. Then the children would write their names on the peice of paper. The children will then put their names on the place wher they would like to go. Finally they would say the Our Father.
