Theme:

Jesus has the power to forgive sins.

That the children understand that Jesus acts in benefit of the needy.

Prepare the notice board with paper as the background and cut outs of green leaves.

Dear children, The Gospel  is always good news for us and that's why it never tires us.  Jesus is always ready to heal us and to give us salvation. That's why, at his side we find peace, happiness and new life.

-Did you write the prayer that was agreed upon, with a humble attitude, and did you say it all week?

- Did you remember to bring it to this meeting?

- Did you offer to do any unpleasant chore for someone at home?

Dear God our Father: Thanks for sending us your Son, Jesus. Through Him we can reach You. You invite us to follow his steps in helping those who need,  anyone who can not go ahead in life by himself or herself. We ask you to help us to be brave and not worry about what others would say when we help someone who needs us. We ask for this, through your Son Jesus. Amen.

Four children are chosen to be “judges” and at the end give an opinion about their partners, and decide who was the best actor. Various cards are placed in a bag and each child would take one card from the bag, each one without showing anyone the card. Each child will portray what is written on his card  and may ask one or two partners to help him in the performance. In addition, they can invent some type of “costume”. The cards can have these or other names: CLOWN, BEGGAR, ASTRONAUT, PUPPET, SINGER, TRAFFIC POLICE, MASON, ORCHESTRA DIRECTOR, etc.( the catechist should prepare the cards before hand)

  • Mark 2,1-12.

When he returned to Capernaum some time later, word went round that he was back; and so many people collected that there was no room left, even in front of the door. He was preaching the word to them when some people came bringing him a paralytic carried by four men, but as the crowd made it impossible to get the man to him, they stripped the roof over the place where Jesus was; and when they had made an opening, they lowered the stretcher on which the paralytic lay. Seeing their faith, Jesus said to the paralytic, 'My child, your sins are forgiven'. Now some scribes were sitting there, and they thought to themselves, ‘How can this man talk like that? He is blaspheming. Who can forgive sins but God?’ Jesus, inwardly aware that this was what they were thinking, said to them, 'Why do you have these thoughts in your hearts? Which of these is easier to say to the paralytic, “Your sins are forgiven” or to say, “Get up, pick up your stretcher and walk”? But to prove to you that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins,’-he said to the paralytic- “I order you: get up, pick up your stretcher, and go off home”. And the man got up, picked up his stretcher at once and walked out in front of everyone, so that they were all astounded and praised God saying, ‘We have never seen anything like this’.

    • 7- Reflexion

  • -What made Jesus famous and made the people crowd around him?

-How did those who carried the paralytic show their faith?

-Before healing the paralytic, what did Jesus say?

. In recent weeks in the Gospel we have heard how Jesus thaught with authority, how he healed the sick and how he freed those possessed with unclean spirits. In today's reading we hear how Jesus, before curing the paralytic of his illness, forgives him his sins. This fact of forgiving sins is criticized by the scribes because they had no faith in Jesus and they showed their faithlessness by saying: Who has the power to forgive sins but God alone? On the other hand, Jesus praises the attitude of those who brought the paralytic who, in spite of not being able to carry him through the door of the house to be cured, introduced him into the house through an opening they made in the roof. Now Jesus, to make them see that he has the power of God and that the Kingdom is already present, not only forgives sins but tells the sick person to get up, take up his stretcher and go home. Jesus responds to the need of the sick person which was not only a physical paralysis but his sinful situation. That is why our faith in Jesus must be total, not half hearted for certain occasions. Every moment of our life should be in agreement with that faith we have. As we look for Jesus, he will let us know him better.

The catechist will have prepared what is indicated in the following, to be placed on the notice board. A yellow circle which represents the center of a flower and in the circle, the name of Jesus. Each child is given a petal to later on place around the circle and so form the flower. Upon receiving the “petal”, each child will write a prayer on it and recite the prayer in the order that the catechist indicates. In the end they will sing a hymn to the Lord.

    • 10- Commitment.

      - Recite the Creed every night.

      - Speak to a friend about Jesus.
