6- Gospel
John 3, 14-21.
14Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the desert, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, 15that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life. 16"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son. 19This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. 21But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God."
7- Reflexion
-What did God the Father do to show us His love?
-What is the most important thing for us to be saved?
-Who are those who prefer the darkness to the light?
-Who is the only Son of God?
8- Enlightenment
Maybe you don’t know why Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness. Moses was chosen by God to take out His people from the slavery in Egypt and lead them to the promise land. The people because they were tired of being in the dessert started speaking against God and Moses. Because of this, they were punished, many serpents came and stung the people and many people died. After this went to Moses to ask him to ask God to take away the punishment. God told Moses to make a bronze serpent, put it on a stick and hold it up high so that everyone could see it. Those who were stung by the serpents would be cured if they looked at the bronze serpent. Jesus used the figure of the serpent in high to show that just as the serpent was held on high so to the Son of God would be held between the heaven and the earth so that all those who believe in Him would have life everlasting. The love of God is that He sent his Son to the world to save us all. The only condition is that we must believe in Jesus and live according to His commandments.
9- Celebration
The catechist, before hand should cut out a cross in cardboard for each child. The crosses should be the same and should be cut up in pieces in the form of puzzles. Each child should receive three or four pieces and the children should put the pieces together. This should be done in silence. When the children have made their crosses, they should make a circle. The catechist would ask the children how they felt making the cross and what that means for them. After this, there will be the following prayer: We adore your cross Lord, and we give glory to your resurrection. Because of your cross joy came to the world. Lord have mercy on us and bless us. Let the whole world know your ways and all the people your salvation. Everyone makes the sign of the cross at the end of the meeting.
