3º Sunday of EASTER

cycle B

Theme:

Jesus is someone who accompanies us

That the children understand that Jesus is always at our side.

In the center of the room put a table with a table cloth and on the table put a lighted candle and an opened bible. Put the following drawing on the notice board.

Dear children, Jesus is always at our side. He has promised that  and He keeps His promise. He loves us so much that He can’t be far away from us for long. Sometimes we are the ones who leave Jesus, we turn our back to Him. Is it possible to find a better friend than Jesus?

-Did you put up the words giving thanks to Jesus for His death and resurrection in your house?

-Did you pray for those who have not yet heard about Jesus?

Dear Jesus, we thank you for your friendship because you do not look at our poor hearts. Teach us to love as you love without expecting something in return. Help us to realize that you are always at our side so that we never feel lonely nor frightened. We ask you to help our parents so that they too will realize that you are with us. Amen.

Before hand the catechist should prepare an activity with words that take our attention away from Jesus.

En la siguiente "sopa de letras" vamos a encontrar muchas cosas que nos pueden alejar de Jesús. Esas palabras que vamos a encontrar las escribiremos en una hoja aparte que, luego, arrojaremos a la papelera.

Luke 24, 35-48.

35Then the two told what had happened on the way, and how Jesus was recognized by them when he broke the bread.

Jesus Appears to the Disciples

36While they were still talking about this, Jesus himself stood among them and said to them, "Peace be with you."

37They were startled and frightened, thinking they saw a ghost. 38He said to them, "Why are you troubled, and why do doubts rise in your minds? 39Look at my hands and my feet. It is I myself! Touch me and see; a ghost does not have flesh and bones, as you see I have."

40When he had said this, he showed them his hands and feet. 41And while they still did not believe it because of joy and amazement, he asked them, "Do you have anything here to eat?" 42They gave him a piece of broiled fish, 43and he took it and ate it in their presence.

44He said to them, "This is what I told you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms."

45Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures. 46He told them, "This is what is written: The Christ will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, 47and repentance and forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. 48You are witnesses of these things.

-What were the disciples speaking about when Jesus came to them?

-Why were the disciples afraid when they saw Jesus?

-What did Jesus do to help his disciples to recognize him?

-What did Jesus say that was written about the Mesiah?

While  the two disciples who had gone to Emmaus that day were telling the other disciples what had happened and how they had recognized Jesus when He broke the bread, Jesus himself came to them. They were frightened because they thought it was a ghost. Jesus said to them ‘peace be with you’ and He asked for something to eat so that they would have no doubt and believe in Him. Just as the disciples were afraid and confused, so too we feel afraid and confused even when we have Jesus at our side. We should ask Jesus to help us to do good to those around us, to help us not to fall into temptation, and to always pray to Him asking for help.

All the children should stand around the table that was prepared at the beginning and say the following prayer: Jesus, you are the light you are the word of life, you are our brother and our guide. Help us not to be afraid and to know that you are always with us, help us not to fall into temptation and keep us safe from evil, Amen.
