Theme:
Jesus wants us to follow Him
- Objetive :
Make the children understand that it is Jesus who wants us to follow Him, and He is always waiting for our answer.
- 1-Environment:
Place the following drawing on the notice board:
2- Greeting:
Dear children: Jesus knows everything about us. That is why when He invites us to follow Him; He does it with a lot of love. His friendship is always present. He is loyal and He is always beside us, even when we doubt.
If our answer to Jesus is affirmative, we commit and participate in His mission. So we become real missionaries accepting His loving invitation.
3- Renewal of commitment.
-Have we prayed this week so that all Christians may get closer to Jesus?
4- Prayer.
Dear Jesus: there is a lot of suffering among us. Many people have lost their lives, and others have lost their houses, jobs and even their families. We feel that as missioners we ought to do something. That is why we ask You to take care of us, lessen our pains and worries and give us hope. In this way with renew energies and enthusiasm they can continue along life. We ask You for the children who have lost their parents, to help them find a good family who will give them education and a lot of love. Help us to help those who are in need around us. Amen
5- Activity
Give each child a white sheet of paper so that they can draw a man fishing. Afterwards, they will write a story about the person they have drawn.
6- Gospel
San Marcos 1:14- 20
The Calling of the First Disciples
“14After John was put in prison, Jesus went into Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God. 15"The time has come," he said. "The kingdom of God is near. Repent and believe the good news!"
16As Jesus walked beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. 17"Come, follow me," Jesus said, "and I will make you fishers of men." 18At once they left their nets and followed him.
19When he had gone a little farther, he saw James son of Zebedee and his brother John in a boat, preparing their nets. 20Without delay he called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired men and followed him.”
7- Reflexion
The catechist will ask only one question:
-What is the relation between each one of the characters in the gospel and the person drawn on the sheet of paper?
Enlightenment:
8- Enlightenment
John the Baptist was put in jail because he disagreed with the way king Herod lived. While John was in jail, Jesus went to preach at the shore of the lake of Galilee. What did Jesus say? “ The kingdom of God is near ” we should repent, and believe in His good news. Jesus, while walking on the shore of the river, called up two men who were about to throw in their nets. They were Simon and Andrew. Later on He saw John and James who were with their father Zebedee and those who were repairing the nets. They left everything behind and they followed Jesus.
To follow Jesus with our heart means that everything else is in second place, because God the Father is in first place. There are young people and adults who leave their country, family, job and projects, and go to very far places to work on the mission that Jesus has given them. Jesus is the one who gives the invitation and he also gives them the strength and the ability needed to fulfill the mission.
Perhaps one of you will be called to be a missionary of Jesus. We should not be afraid, instead we should be ready and trust in God.
9- Celebration
The children should sit in a circle in silence and remember what has been commented about the gospel.
The children should be given the opportunity to express their feelings about the work of the missionaries of Jesus in their country. The meeting will finish with a prayer: Dear God the Father: Thanks for all that You have given us, and for the opportunities to start all over again. Give health to the sick; and help out all those with physical and psychological traumas, strengthen our faith, so we would know what is the mission You have given to each one of us. Amen
