Theme:
We should love God with our heart.
.Objetive :
That the children understand the importance of being coherent in our lives,
that there should be agreement between what we think,
what we say and what we do.
Put a small table in the center of the room and put a table cloth and a cross on the table.
2- Greeting:
Dear children, Jesus shows us the true road to Him, how to be sincere people. Jesus wants us to be true christians.
3- Revision of the commitment:
- During this week, did you visit someone who was sick?
-Have you prayed for the children who are victims of the war, those who are hungry and those who are in need?
4- Prayer.
Dear Jesus, we thank you for all that you have done for us, you have taught us and continue helping us to go through life doing good. Help us to have a sincere and loving heart.Amen.
5- Activity:
Before hand the catechist should prepare a drawing of a tree with branches, leaves and fruits. At the foot of the tree the following expression should be placed: ‘A good tree always gives good fruits.’ The drawing should be cut in as many pieces as the number of children in the group. Each child should color the piece that he or she got and when everyone is finished all the pieces should be put together and the whole drawing should be put on the notice board.
6- Gospel Mark 12, 38-44. 38
As he taught, Jesus said, Watch out for the teachers of the law. They like to walk around in flowing robes and be greeted in the market-places, 39 and have the most important seats in the synagogues and the places of honour at banquets. 40 They devour widows' houses and for a show make lengthy prayers. Such men will be punished most severely. 41 Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put and watched the crowd putting their money into the temple treasury. Many rich people threw in large amounts. 42 But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a fraction of a penny. 43 Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, I tell you the truth, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. 44 They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything— all she had to live on.
7- Reflection:
-Why did Jesus say to his desciples: ‘Be careful with the scribes!’?
- What do the words ‘devour the widows’ houses’ mean?
-Why did Jesus praise the poor widow who gave all that she had?
8- Enlightenment
As in the time of Jesus, today there are people who make a show doing good for others to see what they are doing looking for worldly praise and not the glory of God. Jesus spoke of the scribes with hard words because they did things for others to see them and praise them. They took the best places in the synagogues and at feast. They robbed the money of the poor making long prayers, in the case of the widow who had lost her husband and had no one to take care of her. We could never please God if we rob and do wrong to others. The love we have for others goes hand in hand with the good we do to those around us who are poor and needy. This is why Jesus spoke about the poor widow who gave all that she had. For Jesus, the poor widow was the most generous because she gave what she needed to continue living. Those around her did not see what she did but God who sees everything saw her generous heart. What does this teach us? We should not be like the scribes, we should be truly generous and do good to those around us. God sees our hearts and He knows why we do things.
9- Celebration
The catechist will give each child a card and invite everyone to think about the qualities and things that everyone has. Then, the catechist will ask the children to write on the card things that they can share with others.
Finally everyone should stand around the table and put their cards at the foot of the cross and end the meeting singing the song.
