Sunday

- cycle B -

Theme:

The main commandment is to love God above all things and to love your neighbour as yourself.

Prepare a little table with a tablecloth, a bible and a candle. Put the following drawing on the noticeboard.

Dear children, Israel knew very well what the main commandment was. Jesus also knew and lived according to the main commandment. We say that we love God the Father, we should know and live according to the main commandment.

- Have you prayed for the missionaries every night?

- Have you written a letter to Jesus telling Him about the needs of one of your friends?

Dear Jesus, You lived among the people loving everyone because for you God the Father is the most important person and He has asked that of us. Teach us to truly love You so that we will be able to love those around us. Amen.

Put the following words in order, then make a drawing according to the message of these words.

Ordenar las palabras siguientes formando un mensaje y hacer y pintar un dibujo según lo que indica dicho mensaje.

One of the scribes came and heard them arguing, and (B)recognizing that He had answered them well, asked Him, "What commandment is the foremost of all?" 29Jesus answered, "The foremost is, '(C)HEAR, O ISRAEL! THE LORD OUR GOD IS ONE LORD; 30(D)AND YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND, AND WITH ALL YOUR STRENGTH.' 31"The second is this, '(E)YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.' There is no other commandment greater than these." 32The scribe said to Him, "Right, Teacher; You have truly stated that (F)HE IS ONE, AND THERE IS NO ONE ELSE BESIDES HIM; 33(G)AND TO LOVE HIM WITH ALL THE HEART AND WITH ALL THE UNDERSTANDING AND WITH ALL THE STRENGTH, AND TO LOVE ONE'S NEIGHBOR AS HIMSELF, (H)is much more than all burnt offerings and sacrifices." 34When Jesus saw that he had answered intelligently, He said to him, "You are not far from the kingdom of God." (I)After that, no one would venture to ask Him any more questions.

-Who came to Jesus and what did that person ask Jesus?

- What was Jesus’ answer?

-Why did Jesus tell the scribe that he was not far from God’s kingdom?

The catechist invites the children to stand around the table. The candle is lighted and this prayer is said: Dear God the Father, I love and adore You, I thank You for all You have given me. I offer You the sufferings of many who are poor, sick, hungry and also those who live in war and in hate. Help me to feel the pain of others and to always put You in first place. Amen.
