2º Sunday of EASTER

cycle B

Theme:

Jesus gives us the Holy Spirit.

Put the expression JESUS HAS RISEN in different parts of the meeting room. Draw a candle for each child and put the drawings on the notice board. Leave part of the notice board covered with white paper to be used later on in the meeting.

Dear children, we have THE RISEN CHRIST with us. He is always with those who love him. Let us tell Jesus how much we love him.

-Did you remember to put above your bed the drawing of the risen Christ?

-Did you pray so that there will be many people who will carry the message of Jesus to those who do not know him?

Jesus, you said that we will receive the Holy Spirit. This is the best gift that you can give us. We ask you that all the children of the world receive the Holy Spirit so that they may be strong  in bad moments and love you with all their heart. Jesus, thank you for the gift of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Each child should be given a sheet of paper so that each one can draw the figure of his or her hand, color it and then cut it out. Each child should put the drawing of the hand on the white part of the notice board. Before hand the catechist should prepare the words: JESUS, WE WANT TO RECEIVE THE HOLY SPIRIT. These words should be placed on the drawings of the hands of the children. All the children should stand in a circle and sing an Easter song about the risen Christ.

Jesus Appears to His Disciples

19On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said, "Peace be with you!" 20After he said this, he showed them his hands and side. The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord.

21Again Jesus said, "Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you." 22And with that he breathed on them and said, "Receive the Holy Spirit. 23If you forgive anyone his sins, they are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven."

Jesus Appears to Thomas

24Now Thomas (called Didymus), one of the Twelve, was not with the disciples when Jesus came. 25So the other disciples told him, "We have seen the Lord!"
But he said to them, "Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe it."

26A week later his disciples were in the house again, and Thomas was with them. Though the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, "Peace be with you!" 27Then he said to Thomas, "Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe."

28Thomas said to him, "My Lord and my God!"

29Then Jesus told him, "Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed."

30Jesus did many other miraculous signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. 31But these are written that you may[a] believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.

-What happened on the night of the resurrection?

-What did Jesus say to the disciples?

-What did Thomas say when he heard that Jesus had appeared to them?

-What did Jesus say to Thomas when He appeared to them?

Jesus said to the disciples: ‘Receive the Holy Spirit’.  We have received the Holy Spirit and because of this we believe that Jesus has risen. To believe is a gift that God the Father has given us. Jesus gives us strength to follow Him as a missionary, to be good and help others, to pray for others, to learn more about Jesus and to sow seeds of joy and love around us. Sometimes we forget to thank Jesus for all that He has done for us: save us with His death and resurrection. Many people do not know what Jesus has done for us all so there is need for many missionaries to teach others the good news of our salvation. We have to ask the Holy Spirit to help us to be good missionaries now and always.

Sing the Easter song once more and every one will thank Jesus for all the things He has given to us.

  • 10- Commitment.

-Write the words THANK YOU JESUS FOR YOUR DEATH AND RESURRECTION and put these words in a visible place in your room.

-Every night pray for those who do not know about Jesus so that they may soon discover Jesus in their lives.
