- Jesus' First Disciples
- 35The next day John was there again with two of his disciples. 36When he saw Jesus passing by, he said, "Look, the Lamb of God!"
- 37When the two disciples heard him say this, they followed Jesus. 38Turning around, Jesus saw them following and asked, "What do you want?"
They said, "Rabbi" (which means Teacher), "where are you staying?"- 39"Come," he replied, "and you will see."
So they went and saw where he was staying, and spent that day with him. It was about the tenth hour.- 40Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, was one of the two who heard what John had said and who had followed Jesus. 41The first thing Andrew did was to find his brother Simon and tell him, "We have found the Messiah" (that is, the Christ). 42And he brought him to Jesus.
Jesus looked at him and said, "You are Simon son of John. You will be called Cephas" (which, when translated, is Peter[j).
7- Reflexion
-What did John the Baptist say of Jesus?
-Why did two of disciples of John go after Jesus?
-What did Andrew say to his brother Simon?
-What name did Jesus give to Simon?
8- Enlightenment
If we listen to the reading of the Gospel with attention, Juan the Baptist called Jesus “The lamb of God”. Juan knew that his mission was to announce, that is why the two disciples understood that they should follow Jesus. We are missionaries and our mission is to announce Jesus so He will always be present in the heart of every person. It is only due to Jesus’ Grace that we can talk about His teachings, and not for our own effort. We should be like the Baptist who only wanted Jesus to grow in Him so He would be known for all. Jesus invited Andres and another disciple to be with Him, happily and excited remembered that moment they shared with Jesus for the first time. Let us think if we have met with Jesus, if our live have changed since then, if we are more worried for our own things than for helping others. The jubilee invites us to rectify our behavior and renew our friendship with Jesus.
9- Celebration
Everyone will form a circle in the middle of the classroom. The catechist will prepare a footprint for each child. After giving it out to each child, the children will be invited to observe it and reflect how they have behaved until that moment. After some time the children will talk about their reflections; giving thanks, asking for forgiveness or having other requests. They will finish praying “Our Father”.
