Theme:

 The importance of serving others.

Objective: that the children understand that in the kingdom of God the most important person is the one who serves others.

Put  silhouettes of hands on the walls of the meeting room.

Dear children, Jesus wants us to be very important in the kingdom of God and that is why He teaches us to serve others, to be humble and to trust in God the Father.

-Have you given thanks to God the Father for all that you receive from those you live with?

-Have you made a list of the things that keep you away from Jesus and God’s plan for you?

Dear Jesus, we are happy to know that in the kingdom of God we could be important. We ask you to help us to be like you, humble, and ready to help those in need. Amen.

Each child should be given paper so that  they could make drawings on how they can help others. These drawings should be placed on the notice board.

30They left that place and passed through Galilee. Jesus did not want anyone to know where they were, 31because he was teaching his disciples. He said to them, "The Son of Man is going to be betrayed into the hands of men. They will kill him, and after three days he will rise." 32But they did not understand what he meant and were afraid to ask him about it.

Who is Greatest?

33They came to Capernaum. When he was in the house, he asked them, "What were you arguing about on the road?" 34But they kept quiet because on the way they had argued about who was the greatest.

35Sitting down, Jesus called the Twelve and said, "If anyone wants to be first, he must be the very last, and the servant of all."

36He took a little child and had him stand among them. Taking him in his arms, he said to them, 37"Whoever welcomes one of these little children in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me does not welcome me but the one who sent me."

-What did Jesus say to his disciples on the way to Galilee?

-What did the disciples speak about on the way to Galilee?

-What did Jesus explain to them?

-What did Jesus say and do when He put a child in the midst of them?

The disciples did not understand what Jesus said about suffering, dieing on the cross and resurrecting and they were afaid of asking Jesus to explain what He meant. They thought that being great meant to be strong and intelligent, having power and riches. Jesus wants them to understand that in the eyes of God being humble and serving others are the things that matter. To make them understand what he is saying, He puts a child in the midst of them saying that who ever receives this child receives Him and who ever receives Him receives God the Father. Jesus gives us the example because being God made man, He went among the poor, the sinners and those who were left out of society. Do we think and act like Jesus?

The catechist ask the children to stand in front of the notice board so that they could observe the drawings that they did. The catechist invites the children to think about what they have drawn and if they really help others as in the drawings. Then the catechist gives a silhouette of a hand to each child so that they can write the message of Jesus: “whoever receives one such child in my name receives me, and whoever receives me, receives not me but him who sent me.” The meeting ends saying or singing the Our Father.
