Theme:
Who is Jesus for us?
- Objetive :
That the children understand that Jesus is not a nice idea, but a real person, who ask for our love and in return gives us happiness.
- 1-Environment:
Put the following drawing on the notice board.
2- Greeting:
Dear children, Jesus, who was born in Bethlehem and whose mother is the Virgen Mary, is human just like us. Today he asks us a question: Who do you think I am? The answer is in our heart.
3- Renewal of commitment.
-Have you been speaking to God the Father, asking for blessings for you, your family and those around you?
Have you prayed for those who do not want to accept Jesus and the salvation He has given us so that their ears may be open to the truth?
4- Prayer.
Dear God the Father, You sent us Jesus your son and we believe in Him. We give you thanks and we ask you to increase our faith in the moments of doubt. We love You and we ask your blessings. Amen.
5- Activity
Each child should be given a sheet of paper where they are going to write the names of their friends and they should also write something nice for each friend. On the other side of the paper, they should do a drawing which expresses what they want to tell Jesus. The catechist should ask them how they felt about doing this activity.
6- Gospel Mark 8, 27-35.
Peter's Confession of Christ
27Jesus and his disciples went on to the villages around Caesarea Philippi. On the way he asked them, "Who do people say I am?"
28They replied, "Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, one of the prophets."
29"But what about you?" he asked. "Who do you say I am?"
Peter answered, "You are the Christ.[b]"30Jesus warned them not to tell anyone about him.
Jesus Predicts His Death
31He then began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, chief priests and teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and after three days rise again. 32He spoke plainly about this, and Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him.
33But when Jesus turned and looked at his disciples, he rebuked Peter. "Get behind me, Satan!" he said. "You do not have in mind the things of God, but the things of men."
34Then he called the crowd to him along with his disciples and said: "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. 35For whoever wants to save his life[c] will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me and for the gospel will save it.
7- Reflexion
-What did Jesus ask his disciples? What was Peter’s answer to Jesus?
-After the questions, what did Jesus speak to them about?
-Why did Jesus call Peter the devil? What does the person who wants to follow Jesus have to do?
8- Enlightenment
Today the word of God gives us a very important message: to be able to understand the plan of God we must believe in Him and that is why He ask the disciples whatthe people say about Him. If we believe in Jesus, we will understand that his mission is not an easy way and for those who want to follow Jesus, the way is not easy. Jesus said that He would resurrect after his death and those who follow Him shall be saved. Why did He call Peter satan? Peter knew what the mission of Jesus was but he didn’t want Jesus to die on the cross so he told Jesus that that shouldn’t be so. The devil is the one who tries to lead us away from the way to God, our salvation and the plan that God has for each one of us. This is why Jesus called Peter satan. Just as Jesus was tempted, we too are tempted so that we would not perform our mission and as we are weak, we should always pray and ask God the Father and the Virgen Mary to help us to be strong.
9- Celebration
All the children should have the page with the activity. They should sit in a circle on the floor. The catechist, remembering what the children said about how they felt when they did the activity, will talk about that. The catechist will ask the children to say how they felt and then everyone will give thanks to God the Father for their friends. Finally everyone would speak about the friendship of Jesus and end the meeting saying the Our Father.
