20º Ordinary Sunday - cycle B - |
|
Theme:
Jesus has given us his body so that the world would have life.
- Objetive :
That the children understand that Jesus is the true food that gives life to the world.
- 1-Environment:
Put the following words on the notice board: JESUS HAS GIVEN HIS BODY SO THAT THE WORLD WOULD HAVE LIFE.
2- Greeting:
Dear children, Jesus has told us that he is the true food that would give life to the world. If Jesus fills our lives, then he will be our true food and so the world will start changing, it will be a better place to live in.
3- Renewal of commitment.
-Have you prayed for those in your family who do not believe in Jesus?
-Did you make time during the day to tell Jesus that you believe in him?
4- Prayer.
Dear Jesus, we are happy to have you as our food and strength. We are happy that you saved us on the cross. We are happy to have Mary your mother as our mother too. We love her and we rely on her care and protection at all time.
5- Activity
Give each child a copy of the drawing. They should color and cut out and put it on the notice board.
6- Gospel
John 6 51-58.
51I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. This bread is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world."
52Then the Jews began to argue sharply among themselves, "How can this man give us his flesh to eat?"
53Jesus said to them, "I tell you the truth, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. 54Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. 55For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink. 56Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in him. 57Just as the living Father sent me and I live because of the Father, so the one who feeds on me will live because of me. 58This is the bread that came down from heaven. Your forefathers ate manna and died, but he who feeds on this bread will live forever."
7- Reflexion
-Why did the jews argue when Jesus spoke?
-Who are the ones who have everlasting life?
-How is it possible for Jesus to be in us and we in him?
-What did Jesus promise those who eat the bread that comes down from heaven?
8- Enlightenment
If we remember the gospel readings of the last weeks, we could think that we are repeating, but that is not so. In the gospel of St. John, chapter 6 where we see Jesus who is with people who do not believe, they see the signs of the kingdom of God but they are blind and deaf and their hearts do not accept who is with them. We, as followers of Jesus, find ourselves among people who do not believe. Sometimes we even join the band of those who do not believe.... No one can make us believe; to have faith is to receive the call of Jesus, an invitation and an answer which is free for each one of us. Jesus is the food so that the world may have life. If we believe in Jesus our lives would change and we will help those in our family, those in our society and those in the world, to change also, to have life everlasting, God’s life in us. If we don’t make an effort day by day to give an answer of faith, then we should not complain when things go wrong around us.
9- Celebration
The catechist will show a map of the world and invite each child to throw a card on the map. Each child should remember the country or the continent where the card fell. Then the catechist will invite the children to pray for the people of that country. To finish the meeting, every one should say the Hail Mary and sing a song to Mary, the mother of God.
