THE LORD’S
RESURRECTION
HOPE FOR EVERYONE
Objective:
To internalize the fact that with his death and resurrection, Jesus has given us salvation, joy and hope.
1) Setting:
The catechist presents himself with a drawing of a flower in his hand, and on it will be written: Alleluia!
Notice board: Draw an open door, on a light color in the background. In the middle of the door draw a lighted church candle with the symbols of the Easter Church candle. Around this, draw some smiling faces and write the expression: “Jesus has resurrected. Alleluia!”
2) Greeting:
Dear children: we celebrate the most important feast for us Christians and, although many people do not know: it is a feast of liberation, of joy and of hope.
3) Review of the commitment:
- How does the cross of defeat of temptations look on the wall?
- Has anyone taken part in any of the activities on Easter?
- Have we prayed for those who have lost faith in Jesus?
- 4) PRAYER:
Make this introduction briefly: What does the word ALLELUIA mean? Well, it is a jewish word that means: praise the Lord. That is why we are going to say:
Father, with great joy we thank you for your son Jesus, who died for us and resurrected to enable us to go through the door to your glory. Give us the Holy Spirit to enlighten our faith and always strengthen our soul. We pray for all the children around the world who don’t celebrate anything, who are sad, sick and hopeless. Help them God, Amen.
Sing: Glory, glory, alleluia!, (3) Jesus is the Lord!
5) ACTIVITY
Organize the children in small groups, of 3 or 4. Each group will have 5 minutes to prepare a mime, a representation without using words. The topic is: “We give you all good news”. When the groups are prepared, each one will give its message to the rest of the children. After every presentation, the spectators will interpret the message, and those from the group will say if the answer is correct or not.
- 6.- GOSPEL.
At the end of the activity the catechist will say: Today we have received good news. That is why we will pay attention to the Gospel of John 20.1 – 9
“Now on the first day of the week Mary Magdalene came to the tomb early, while it was still dark, and saw that the stone had been taken away from the tomb. So she ran, and went to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved, and said to them, ‘They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid him.’ Peter then came out with the other disciple and they went toward the tomb. They both ran, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first; and stooping to look in, he saw the linen cloths lying there, but he did not go in. Then Simon Peter came, following him, and went into the tomb; he saw the linen cloths lying, and the napkin, which had been on his head, not lying with the linen cloths but rolled up in a place by itself. Then the other disciple, who reached the tomb first, also went in, and he saw and believed; for as yet they did not know the scripture, that he must rise from the dead.”
7) Reflection
- What did Mary Magdalene see when she went to the tomb where Jesus was buried ?
- What did Peter and the other disciples say when they heard Mary Magdalene had to say?
- What did the disciples not understand?
8) Enlightenment:
Mary Magdalene was a woman who had been converted and who followed Jesus. In spite of the love she felt for Jesus she hadn’t understand or beleived his words: that he will resurrect on the third day after his death.
When Magdalene entered the tomb on the third day, she was surprised: the big stone was moved. The first thing she did was run to tell Peter and the other disciples that Jesus loved very much. Both of them ran, and the other disciple that was with Peter reached first, he looked around but he didn’t enter to the tomb. When Peter arrived he looked and entered the tomb, the other one also entered, saw and believed.
He saw the linen that covered Jesus on the floor, as it was very late on Friday it was not used as was the custom, and the cloth that covered Jesus’ head was folded in a place appart. As he saw this, he believed what is written , that Jesus was going to resurrect on the third day among the dead.
The apostles, women and other disciples, were witnesses of Jesus’ resurrection. Many of them gave their life to testify that Jesus was the son of God and that he had resurrected.
We also believe that Jesus has resurrected and because of him we will have eternal life. No one had come to the glory of God before Jesus. He opened the door, and since then, is has been opened for those who follow him, for those who do good to others, those who reject evil and change their life.
That is why today we celebrating and the church sings: “Praise the Lord, Alleluia!”
9) Celebration:
(let us learn this song)
Alleluia, alleluia, it is the feast of the Lord,
Alleluia, alleluia, the Lord has resurrected. (2)
There is no more fear, there is no more death, there are no more sorrows to cry over,
Because Jesus is alive, there is hope.
Everybody in front of the notice board, looking at it in attentively. With joined hands we will all say:
Dear Jesus: you are the true light, you have changed the darkness into light, death into life.
Thanks for the love you have always had for us, because you have given your life for us. (Sing an Easter song.)
10) Commitment:
-Next to the cross of temptations I will put the poster: alleluia, Jesus resurrected!
-Every night I will thank Jesus for his resurrection and I will do everything with joy.
