The Ascension

of the Lord

- cycle A -

Jesus will always be with us.

bullet

Objective:

Understand that Jesus keeps his promise to be with us and he wants us to continue his mission among the people.

bullet

1) Setting:

Place on the notice board in large letters, the third missionary Commandment: “A MISSIONARY CHILD PRAYS EVERY DAY TO GOD THE FATHER FOR HIS BROTHERS, THE CHILDREN OF ALL THE WORLD AND WANTS THEM TO KNOW HIS MOTHER, THE VIRGIN MARY”. Next to these words, place a picture or drawing of the Virgin Mary.

bullet

2) Greeting:

Dear children: Jesus, before ascending to heaven told his disciples to go throughout the whole world carrying His message of salvation. He also tells us these words today and we should meditate on what can we do.

bullet

3) Review of the commitment:

-Who knows the first commandments of the missionary child well?

-How many persons did you help during this week?

bullet4) PRAYER:

Dear Jesus: Sometimes we find it hard to do what you tell us but we know that you are at our side to help us to do good to our neighbors. Help us always, don't permit selfishness and laziness to abide in our hearts, we want to be true missionary  children.

bullet

5)  ACTIVITY

Each child is handed a sheet of paper in which he (she) would draw a sketch of the street, the block and other streets near his home, up to wherever he remembers. Each child should paint a heart in the spot where his house is located and also on the houses of the neighbors that he knows.

Next, each exhibits the drawing made. The idea is that each child discovers the small or large relationship with the people in his surroundings to whom he should transmit the message of Jesus.

bullet6.- GOSPEL

What we have done before has a lot to do with with the message given to us today by the Word of God. We read Matthew 28, 16-20.

Meanwhile the eleven disciples set out for Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had arranged to meet them. When they saw him they fell down before him, though some hesitated. Jesus came up and spoke to them. He said, 'All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go, therefore, make disciples of all the nations; baptize them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teach them to observe all the commands I gave you. And know that I am with you always; yes, to the end of time.'

7) REFLECTION

-Where did Jesus summon his disciples?

-Why did Jesus send his disciples to all nations?

-What promise did Jesus make to his disciples?

bullet

8) Enlightenment:

Jesus summoned his disciples in Galilee on a mountain. Some of them still had doubts about the resurrection of Jesus but he tells them that he has the power to send them to all nations. He says three important words: Go, teach, baptize in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. By the promise that he makes to his disciples, we know that he is always with us, that we want to follow him, and that we consider ourselves disciples of his. Jesus wants us to collaborate with him in carrying the message of salvation to all, we cannot remain standing without doing anything. We can see the sketch that each one has drawn and realize that we are missionaries a bit “dim”.

bullet

9) Celebration:

Standing, let us extend our hands and say:

Jesus, I want to help you in the task of extending your reign of love. God the Father has given me these hands to do many things. When we open them before you, we want to tell you to count on us, we ask you to give us light to know you better and strength to be brave in announcing your message. Jesus, call many young people to work in your fields, that they may be generous in answering like the Virgin Mary who was always attentive to your words. Amen. Let us sing a hymn about “send” ( the song should be chosen before hand)

bullet

 10) Commitment:

-Write your commitment for today next to the sketch you drew and  put it somewhere visible so as not to forget it.

-Speak about Jesus and His love to everyone, every day to a different person.

-Pray every night so that there may be young people willing to accept the invitation of Jesus to go throughout the world and teach his message of salvation.
