We love Jesus if we keep His Commandments.
That children understand that loving Jesus means accepting and living what He tells us.
Place on the notice board the second of the missionary Commandments: “A MISSIONARY CHILD KNOWS JESUS, LOVES AS JESUS LOVES AND IS NOT ASHAMED OF SPEAKING ABOUT JESUS”.
Dear children: Today Jesus speaks to us about love and He says that if we love Him, we will obey Him. There are many who don't listen to Jesus and sometimes even we don't pay attention to Him. We must examine our hearts and see whether we really love Jesus.
How have you fulfilled your two commitments of last week?
The catechist forms two groups and tells the children that each group must do a representation of what a missionary does. The life of a saint or some other special person may be used as an example.
Let us listen to the words that are in John 14, 15-21. If you love me you will keep my commandments. I shall ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate to be with you for ever, that Spirit of truth whom the world can never receive since it neither sees nor knows him; but you know him, because he is with you, he is in you. I will not leave you orphans; I will come back to you. In a short time the world will no longer see me; but you will see me, because I live and you will live. On that day you will understand that I am in my Father and you in me and I in you. Anybody who receives my commandments and keeps them will be one who loves me; and anybody who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I shall love him and show myself to him.
Love cannot be defined by pretty words that we say. We love others when we help and collaborate from the heart, especially when the person is sick, poor, limited and cannot do anything in return for us. The love for Jesus is shown when we listen and put into practice what He has told us. It isn't enough telling Jesus that we love him if we don't do what He wants. He wants the best for us, He knows what's best for us and that's why he tells us to live His commandments. If we are tuned to Jesus, he will give us the Advocate, the Spirit of Truth and we will understand many things.
Let us hold hands and say (we can also sing) the Our Father. In this prayer we say: “Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven” which means that we accept what God the Father wants for us. We know that Jesus taught us this prayer.
-Write in large letters on cardboard the first and second commandments of the missionary child. To be able to learn it well, place the cardboard in your room, in a visible place. -Help the people who you live with and love. Then you can say that you truly love as Jesus wants you to love.
