WE ARE LIGHT AND SALT OF THE WORLD
Turn off the lights in the room.
Good morning, dear children. Today Jesus gives us a present with a very important message, it is almost a commitment that we have to do. And speaking about commitment. How have we done our commitment for last week? The catechist takes in his hands a bag with salt and says: what I have in my hands is salt, which we use to give food a good taste. I am going give some to each one, so that you can taste it, but we are not going to make any comments. Now we are going to turn on the lights in the room (which had no lights or very little until the present moment).
Repite after me: “Father , everything you do is wonderful. Because of all this, we thank you , teach us to be always humble and grateful.” Amen
Give a piece of paper to each child with the following exercise: Place the word in the right pigeonhole: It’s useful for... Jesus sends me to be... You use it for the food to be... It’s useful for...
Mateo 5, 13-16 “You are the salt of the earth; but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trodden under foot by men. “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hid. Nor do men light a lamp and put it under a bushel, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”
-What should Christians do?
-Jesus wants others to see our good work, why? -I’m a missionary child. What should I do? Jesus told his disciples that they were the salt of the earth and the light of the world. He says the same to us and this is a commitment because sometimes we don’t “flavour” and we aren’t “light”, many times we feel scared and we hide. We aren’t brave enough to stop two people from fighting , or to stop someone from saying something bad or doing something wrong. Jesus wants us to be light and salt, not for us to say nice things nor for us to feel that we are better than others, but for the people to give praise and glorify God.
Let’s write in our notebook a little song that the Virgen Mary sang, because she knew how to be salt and light. “ My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour for he has regarded the humility of his servant. From now on, all generations will call me blessed. "
