Jesus, King of the Universe

- cycle A -

Theme:

Jesus is in the poorest and most needy person.

  • Objetive :
  • Understand that whatever we do to the poorest and most needy person,  we do it to Jesus Himself.

  •

  •  1-Environment:

Place  the following drawing on the signboard.

  • 2- Greeting:

Dear children Jesus joins us again today; He invites us to listen to Him, to share our lives and to discover new ways to improve the world.

  • 3- Renewal of commitment.

-Have you placed your thanks in a visible place?

-Have you prayed for those who do not use their gifts to help others?

  • 4- Prayer.

Dear Jesus: today we have arrived at the last catechism of the first cycle.  We begin cycle B.  Jesus, we thank you for everything that You have given us and taught us during this year.  Help us to persevere in our formation as missionaries.

  • 5- Activity

The group must be divided into two.  Look at the signboard for a few moments and  the idea that we grasp from it, to prepare a sketch.   Each group uses the necessary time to prepare and do an exposition.  The holy gospel conveys the message, even though the children have not succeeded in understanding the proposed theme well.

  • 6- Gospel

Now listen to the teachings of Jesus and we will observe if we coincide with the sketch and the message of the gospel of Saint Mark, 25, 31 - 46.

Then Jesus said to his disciples:  When the Son of Man comes, in all his glory, accompanied by his angels, He will sit on His throne of glory.  Then all the nations will be gathered before Him and He will separate one group from the other, as the shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.  He will place the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.  Then the King will say to those on his right:  “Come, blessed of My Father.  Come and possess the Kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world, because I was hungry and you fed Me, thirsty and you gave me drink;  I was a foreigner and you took Me in, I was naked and you clothed Me,  sick and you visited Me, in prison and you went to visit Me.  The just will then say:  “Lord, when did we see You hungry and fed You and thirsty and gave You to drink?  When did we see You a foreigner and gave you lodging, naked and dressed You?   When did we see You sick or in prison and went to visit You?  Then the King will say to them:  “I assure you that when you did it to the most insignificant of my brothers, you did it to Me.  Then He will also say to those on his left: “Get away from Me, you wicked ones.  Go to the eternal fire, prepared for the devil and his angels, because I was hungry and you did not feed Me, thirsty and you did not give me anything to drink;  I was a foreigner and you did not take Me in; I was naked and you did not clothe Me, sick and in prison and you did not visit Me.”  Then these will reply: “Lord, when did we see You hungry and thirsty, a foreigner or naked, sick or in prison and we did not help You? “  Then He will answer them; “I assure you that when you did not do it to one of the most insignificant ones, you did not do it to Me either.”  Then they will go to the everlasting punishment and the just will go to eternal life.

  • 7- Reflexion

What does Jesus say will happen when He comes at the end of time?

Who are the goats and who are the sheep?

Jesus, with whom do you identify yourself to say that you have served Jesus?

Who remembers the commandment of Jesus?

  • 8- Enlightenment

Jesus says that in His second coming, He will be like a Judge and his way of judging will be based on love.  If we have abandoned our selfishness feeding, giving drink and a roof to the needy, if we have visited the sick and those in prison, if we have helped the most insignificant ones, if we have respected the lives of the most defenseless, we shall be blessed and shall enjoy the Kingdom prepared since the creation of the world.

The opposite will happen to the selfish ones and those who have not shared with the poor, the hungry, the needy, the most insignificant, those who have destroyed the lives of others.  For those, they will receive the eternal fire, prepared for the devil and his angels.  Now we may say if the sketch that one group has portrayed was related the Holy Gospel.  (Speak a little among each other).

  • 9- Celebration

We sit on the floor in a circle.  Each one is going to reflect for a few moments if Jesus is going to be pleased with him or perhaps not so pleased.  Let us sincerely promise to change our  selfish attitudes.  Let us sing that well known song:
You told me Lord that on my way I will find people hungry for bread
that there will be thirsty people who will come to drink from my fountain, sick people, tired from the cold and the lonely.
You told me that You suffer in the poor.  That You are naked and You are not free.
That in the aged that are waiting, You await me.  That in that hungry child, You will die.
Here I am, Lord I wish to love You. To love the poor and those who suffer most.
My bread is Yours and the water from my fountain, come to my dwelling and You will find love.

  • 10- Commitment.

-I will copy one the expressions that Jesus used in today´s  Gospel, the one which has attracted me the most and I shall place it in my bedroom.

-I shall pray every day for us christians to be more sensitive towards the suffering of so many and help us to give to the needy.
