33º Ordinary Sunday

- cycle A -

Theme:

The Kingdom of God can’t be reached by lazy people.

  • Objetive :
  • That the children understand that God gives us the Kingdom of heaven but we need to get it with our strength.

  •  1-Environment:
Put the drawing of the liturgical year on the notice board without any writings.

  • 2- Greeting:

Dear children, we are finishing  the liturgical year together. Let us evaluate what we have done during this year. Jesus will help us.

  • 3- Renewal of commitment.

-Have I invited   anyone to wait for Jesus with a lighted lamp?

-Have I prayed for the conversion of sinners?

  • 4- Prayer.

Dear Jesus, we have almost finished the liturgical year and we know that we have worked. Maybe there were moments when we got tired and did nothing, we fell into temptation and buried the gifts that you have given us. Today we come together to listen to your word and learn more about you. We ask you to help us to share our gifts with others. Amen.

  • 5- Activity

Give a drawing of the symbol of the liturgical year to each child. Nothing should be written on the drawing. This would be used to remember all that the children have experienced during the year. Big groups can be divided into smaller groups. The teacher can take notes so as to make improvements.

  • 6- Gospel

Today Jesus speaks to us about evaluation and we see that this is related to the activity that we have done. Let us listen to the gospel of St Matthew 25, 14-30.

Parable of the Talents

14"For it is just like a man about to go on a journey, who called his own slaves and entrusted his possessions to them.

15"To one he gave five talents, to another, two, and to another, one, each according to his own ability; and he went on his journey.

16"Immediately the one who had received the five talents went and traded with them, and gained five more talents.

17"In the same manner the one who had received the two talents gained two more.

18"But he who received the one talent went away, and dug a hole in the ground and hid his master's money.

19"Now after a long time the master of those slaves came and settled accounts with them.

20"The one who had received the five talents came up and brought five more talents, saying, 'Master, you entrusted five talents to me. See, I have gained five more talents.'

21"His master said to him, 'Well done, good and faithful slave You were faithful with a few things, I will put you in charge of many things; enter into the joy of your master.'

22"Also the one who had received the two talents came up and said, 'Master, you entrusted two talents to me. See, I have gained two more talents.'

23"His master said to him, 'Well done, good and faithful slave. You were faithful with a few things, I will put you in charge of many things; enter into the joy of your master.'

24"And the one also who had received the one talent came up and said, 'Master, I knew you to be a hard man, reaping where you did not sow and gathering where you scattered no seed.

25'And I was afraid, and went away and hid your talent in the ground. See, you have what is yours.'

26"But his master answered and said to him, 'You wicked, lazy slave, you knew that I reap where I did not sow and gather where I scattered no seed.

27'Then you ought to have put my money in the bank, and on my arrival I would have received my money back with interest.

28'Therefore take away the talent from him, and give it to the one who has the ten talents.'

29For to everyone who has, more shall be given, and he will have an abundance; but from the one who does not have, even what he does have shall be taken away.

30"Throw out the worthless slave into the outer darkness; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

  • 7- Reflexion

-What is the Kingdom of heaven compared to?

-What did the man do with his workers when he returned from his journey?

-Why did the man punished the man who hid the money?

  • 8- Enlightenment

Jesus, speaks to us about the Kingdom of heaven and how to obtain it,  as he has done in other moments. People who are afraid  and  hide their gifts, do nothing to obtain the Kingdom of Heaven. We are now at the end of the liturgical year. Do you remember what that means? We have evaluated our work and seen the results. Jesus does not look at the quantity, but our good intention to work in his Kingdom.  He is the one who makes the yeast in the flour rise, He is the one makes the seeds grow, He is the hidden treasure, He is the one who multiplied the bread and the fishes, He is the one who cured the sicknesses , He is the one who invites us to wait with our lighted lamp.

  • 9- Celebration

We are happy because we have learned a little more about Jesus, because we have felt his love and his help. Now we are more like him. We can also see that we have better relationships with others. We have to thank God for all these gifts. Every one seated in a circle on the floor will give thanks to God for all that he has given us. Finally we say the Our Father and sing a song of thanksgiving.

  • 10- Commitment.

-Write the fifth commandment of the missionary children on a cardboard: ‘A missionary child is happy when he or she is able to share with others.’ Put this in a place in your bedroom where it can be seen.

-Every night pray for those who do not use their gifts wisely so that they will realize that God has given them those gifts to do good.
