30º Ordinary Sunday

- cycle A -

Theme:

Place the following drawing on the Notice board: Jesus with arms extended and, at his side a space is left for the children to place  persons with their names, and the expression: THE LOVE OF GOD AND THE LOVE OF OTHERS IS ONE THING

Dear children: the feast of World Missionary Sunday compels us to be better missionaries every day. Jesus will tell us what is true love.

-Have I prayed that Jesus may be known in the whole world?

-Have I collaborated with my savings in the World Missionary Sunday?

Dear Jesus: You have told us what is the first commandment and we understand that we cannot love you without loving those around us. Help us to understand and live this with complete sincerity. Amen.

Each child is handed  the figures of two persons, to color and cut out. As they finish this activity they put the drawings on the notice board on one side and on the other of the figure of Jesus. They will also learn the following song, or one like the following:

Love is to give oneself, forgetting oneself,

Searching for what makes others feel happy. (2)

How lovely it is to live, in order to love; how great it is to have for as to give.

Give joy and happiness, to give oneself, that is love. (2)

If you love the way you love yourself and give yourself to others,

You will see there is no selfishness what you cannot overcome. (2)

Jesus invites us to listen to him. He always tells us what we have to do. Let us listen to the Gospel of Matthew 22, 34-40

When the Pharisees heard that he had silenced the Sadducees they got together and, to disconcert him, one of them put a question, 'Master, which is the greatest commandment of the Law?' Jesus said, 'You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and the first commandment. The second resembles it: You must love your neighbour as yourself. On these two commandments hang the whole Law, and the Prophets also.'

-Why did the Doctor of the Law want to put Jesus to the test?

-What was his question?

-What was Jesus' reply?

In order to put Jesus to the test, a Doctor of the Law asked Jesus which is the greatest commandment of the law. Jesus replies: "Love the Lord your God, with all your heart, with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the greatest and the first of the commandments, and the second resembles the first: Love your neighbor as yourself. In these two commandments is based the law and the prophets."

We will understand this first commandment very well if we follow Jesus and to act as He does. A christian cannot say the he loves God if he doesn't love others. Love is not a thing of words nor selfish acts that produce pleasure as, nowadays, it is shown on the streets and on the mass social media. The apostle Paul, faithful follower of Jesus, tells us love is: patient, helpful, and without envy; doesn't seek its own interest, is not carried away by anger, forgets offenses and forgives; is not happy with injustice but the truth pleases him; love believes, waits for and supports everything.

Where could we find a better explanation of what is love but the very Word of God? Jesus is our only model and so every other model is just no good.

  • 10- Commitment.

-Make a list of needy people near our house and do something for some of them.

-Pray every night for so many people who do not receive love from anyone, so that they discover and feel the love of Jesus.
