Second Sunday of the Ordinary time
|

|
Jesus is the
light of all nations
Objective:
Reflect on the fact that Jesus has come to free us from
our sins.
 |
1)
Setting: |
Put a big sign with
the word Jesus , missionary of the Father.
 |
2)
Greeting: |
Dear children, we are starting the
ordinary time of the church’s liturgical year, the Christmas season is over, but
Jesus continues to be with us inviting us to follow him every day.
 |
3) Prayer: |
Everyone in silence let us greet Jesus in a
special way. Now let us reflect on our commitment for
last week. How did you do it? Each child, seated in his or her place, read what
was circled from the ten commandments of the missionary child.
 |
4) Activity |
We are now going to prepare a play.
Characters: someone who sells candles and
matches, someone who loves to talk and some children who will play the people
of the town.
As the story is read, the characters act
their parts.
Once upon a time there was a town called
“Fog” where the sun was not seen very often and the nights were cold and dark
The people of the town were very sad, no one laughed nor sang nor played nor
helped each other. One day a man who loved to talk, came to the town and when
he saw what was happening in the town,
he said that he was going to make a big fire that would
light up the place and that every thing would change. He started to sell
candles to all the people but nothing happened. After some time an old lady
who sold candles came to the town but no one bought candles from her. Very
soon she realized that nobody knew what the candles were for .She took out
boxes of matches, started to light the candles one by one and each person
started to smile. Every one started talking about
what had happened . Then people started to play and to sing. Something great
happened, the town woke up.
|
Let us reflect on the
story.
-What
made the people of this town change?
-Did
the man’s words help to change the people?
-The
light of the candles , what does that remind us of?
-With
this little story we are now going to listen to Jesus’ message. |

THE WORD OF GOD
John 1, 29-34. |
Let us listen to what the gospel tells us.
The Next day he saw Jesus coming
toward him, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the
world! This is he of whom I said, ‘After me comes a man who ranks before me,
for he was before me.’ I myself did not know him; but for this I came
baptizing with water, that he might be revealed to Israel.” And John bore
witness, “I saw the Spirit descend as a dove from heaven, and it remained on
him. I myself did not know him; but he who sent me to baptize with water said
to me , ‘He on whom you see the Spirit descend and remain, this is he who
baptizes with the Holy Spirit.’ And I have seen and have borne witness than
this is the Son of God.”

6)
Catequist explanation:
|
John the Baptist, who we already know , said
that Jesus was the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world, in other
words, the darkness of the world. John also said that he saw the Holy Spirit
come down on Jesus. Because of this he said that Jesus is the Son of God. We,
today can also tell others that Jesus is the saviour,
a missionary of God the Father, just as John the Baptist
did. Our testimony should not only be by words , it
should be by deeds, lighted candles of love, service, help, generosity,
responsibility.
-Sometimes we live like the people in the
town called “Fog”, but Jesus has come to take away the sins of the world,
which was in darkness.
-Did Jesus take away the darkness with
speeches? Of course not!
He did it with deeds.
-If Jesus is not in our life, what would
happen to us?
 |
8)
Commitment: |
-Draw a
candle in the notebook every time you do something good for someone else.
-Say the
Our Father every night so that the word of God may reach to all men and women
in all the world so that every one may feel the love of God and call him
Father.
