Let us listen to God.

Objective:

Reflect deeply in the words of the Gospel when it says: This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased, listen to Him.

  • 1)     Setting:

Draw a mountain on the notice board and write on the center of the summit the name of Jesus, at the left the name of Eli’jah and to the right, the name of Moses. At the bottom of the mountain write the names of Peter, James and John.

  • 2)     Greeting:

Hello, My dear children: Jesus, today has something new to teach us. Also He wants us to discover what is God’s will for us.

Let’s hold hands and very slowly we will say the Our Father:

-Who has started to paint the cross?

-Has it been very difficult to resist the temptations?

-How many of you have remember to pray every day?

  • 5)  Activity

Our game today has the name: “Call- Answer”.

Give each child a piece of paper with number written on it starting with 1 ending with a number according to the amount of children. Next to the number write the name of an apostle or another name from the bible. The catequist , in the center of the room, pretends to be talking on the phone and says: number three please. The number three answers: Here I am. ( and he or she gives his or her name) The catequist continues: I want to know about your friend Jesus, can you tell me about Him? At the end of the game the catequist will invite the children to listen the gospel and to observe the notice board. The children are then asked to think about how they could complete the notice board.

6)    THE WORD OF GOD

Now listen to the message that Jesus has for us today:

Gospel according to Matthew 17, 1-9

And after six days Jesus took with Him Peter, James and John, his brother, and led them up a high mountain apart: And he was transfigured before them, and his face shone like the sun, and his garments became white as light. And behold , there appeared to them Moses and Eli’jah, talking with him: And Peter said to Jesus, Lord, it is well that we are here, if you wish , I will make three booths here, one for you and one for Moses and one for Eli’jah. He was still speaking, when lo, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and a voice from the cloud said; This is my beloved Son, with whom I am pleased, listen to him. When his disciples heard this , they fell on their faces and were filled with awe. But Jesus came and touched them saying: Rise, and have no fear. And when they lifted up their eyes, they saw no one but Jesus only. And as they were coming down the mountain, Jesus commanded them:

“Tell no one the vision, until the Son of man is raised from dead.”

  • 7) Reflection

-What is the meaning of being transfigured?

-What words did the disciples heard that made them fall on their faces?

-Who were Moses and Eli’jah?

  • 8) Enlightenment:

Jesus called and took with him to the mountain three of his disciples. They were witness of something that the others did not see and Jesus told that they could not talk about that until after the death and ressurection of Jesus . Jesus wanted to strenghten the faith of his disciples, because they had doubted many times. On this ocasion the Father allowed them to hear his voice saying that Jesus is his beloved Son and saviour, who the people on the old testament waited for, there is not and there will not ever be another messiah. That’s why in every meeting we listen to Jesus and try to follow him with joy. God our Father is happy when we are obedient to his words, listening to Jesus.

  • 9) Celebration:

In silence every one is going to think which words of Jesus were the most important and after that we are going to say thanks in a loud voice.

  •  10) Commitment:

-It is possible that nobody has painted the cross totally and because of this, let’s continue resisting the temptations.

-Everyone should write a prayer in his or her notebook, asking God our Father to help so many children who have not heard the word of Jesus.
