" Conversion "
Especific objective:
That the children discover what Advent is, an invitation to conversion: change of life.
1) GREETING
Welcome the children .
We are going to talk about our commitment from the week before.
-How did we do it?
-The card board that we put in the room, how does it look?
2) Prayer
Now, we are going to say the Our Father:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. The kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Amen
3) ACTIVITY
Who knows the name of the country where Jesus was born?. Which cities from that place are well known and important?..... Well, to be sure of all this let’s build this puzzle, then, we’ll write the names of the different places. Once the map is constructed, every one will copy it in their notebooks and color it, so it will look nice.
|
Before hand the catequist will have prepared on cardboard the puzzle of the map |

4) THE GOSPEL
-Before reading and listening to the word of God, I would like to ask you all who was John the Baptist, and why he was called that way.
-Let’s pay attention to the word of God, so that it touches our hearts;
L
et us read Matthew 3, 1-10.:In those days appeard John the Baptist preaching in the wilderness of Judea, “ Repent for the kindom of heaven is at hand” Was refering to him, the prophet Isaiah when he said “ A voice was heard in the wilderness” prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight. Now John wore a garment of camel’s hair, and leather girdle around his waist, and his food was locusts and wild honey, then went our to him Jerusalem and all of Judea and all the region about the Jordan, and they were baptized by him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins. But when he saw many of the parisees and saducees coming for baptism, he said to them: “You blood of vipers, who warned you to flee from the wrath to come? Bear fruit that befits repentance, and do not presume saying to yourselves; we have Abraham as our father: For I tell you, God is able from these stones to raise up children to Abraham. Even now the axe is laid to the root of the trees; every tree therefore that does not bear good fruits is cut down and thrown the fire. I baptize you with water for repentance, but the one who is coming after me is mightier than I whose sandals I am not worthy to carry; he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.
5) MEDITATION
Let us discuss the reading that we have just heard, we know who John the Baptist was, what he thought and what he did.
-What does John tell us to do?
-Whose Sandals is he unworthy of undoing?
-What is the key word of today’s message?
6) Catequist explanation:
John the Baptist invites us to make a change in our lives, because the kingdom of God is at hand. This kingdom is Jesus, but each of us could build it following Jesus´ example, doing what he says: for example, paying a fair salary, helping others, preaching the message of love. We have to fight against violence, help abandoned children, so that poor people would have food and a place to live, so that all may be respected.
7) ACTIVITY
To each one of you I am giving a sheet of paper, there is a drawing of an axe on it, let’s cut it out and fold it in half, following the dotted line.

|
John tells us that the axe is to cut down trees that do not bear good fruits. In the axe that we have just cut out, let’s write those bad fruits that come out from our hearts, those things that do not allow us to be like Jesus.
I will place in my room the drawing of the axe and what I wrote on it, next to the poster from the week before. This way I will remember that Advent is conversion – Be prepared.
8) Celebration:
-Last week we learned a song, let’s sing it.
-Each one asks Jesus to convert him or her.
-Let’s pray the Hail Mary.
9) Commentment for the week:
-I will help my mother to do help around the house without her asking me.
-I will pray every night for the conversion of sinners and for the union of my family.
