Theme:
Let's prepare WORLD MISSIONARY SUNDAY
-
Objetive :
That the children understand that Jesus' mission of going out and preaching
the Gospel to all people. He wants to continue doing it through us, with our
collaboration. Jesus SENDS us. -
1-Environment:
Have the notice board ready to work with the following text: THAT
WE ALL CALL GOD OUR FATHER.
Dear children: today we are going to prepare ourselves for a very
important day for the Childhood Missionary and for the whole Church.
The penultimate Sunday of October, every year, the Church celebrates
World Missionary Sunday. On this day, all christians of the world
offer sacrifices and collaborate with money for the missions. We
can't be left behind so we will give from what we have and we will
encourage others to also collaborate: Dad, Mum, our grandparents,
uncles and aunts, neighbors, school companions, teachers, etc.
-Have I prayed for many people to respond to Jesus' invitation to
participate in His banquet?
-Have I saved more than usual, to collaborate with the missions?
Dear Jesus: You have invited us to be missionaries and we have
answered your invitation. May there be many young people ready to
leave everything behind to go to the farthest countries and the most
difficult places to carry your message of love. May all of us in
your Church feel responsible for the missions and always be generous
to collaborate in every way. We ask for light, strength and courage
to dedicate ourselves to this cause. Amen.
Use disposable materials such as cardboard, cups, sweet wrapping,
drinking straws, pieces of cloth, etc. to prepare the notice board.
Glue, scissors, paint are also needed. (whatever can be found.)
The children form small groups and they are given a blank page so
that they may represent in a drawing the expression that is written
on the notice board. The best drawing that encloses all the
elements of the theme is chosen and then, with everyone partaking,
the notice board is prepared with the disposable materials at hand.
The catechist, after the activity has ended, will invite the
children to reflect on the task realized, the elements used, the
work in group... He will tell them that in the Gospel of Mark 16,
15-20, we will discover the profound meaning of our missionary
commitment.
Mark 16, 15-20
Jesus said to them, 'Go out to the
whole world; proclaim the Good News to all creation. .He who believes and is
baptized will be saved; he who does not believe will be condemned. These are
the signs that will be associated with believers: in my name they will cast
out devils; they will have the gift of tongues; they will pick up snakes in
their hands, and be unharmed should they drink deadly poison; they will lay
their hands on the sick, who will recover.' And so the Lord Jesus, after he
had spoken to them, was taken up into heaven: there at the right hand of God
he took his place, while they, going out, preached everywhere, the Lord
working with them and confirming the word by the signs that accompanied it.
-What
did Jesus tell the eleven?
-What
did the disciples do after Jesus went up to Heaven?
-What
relation will we find between the notice board that we worked on and the
message from the Gospel we have just listened to?
Jesus gave his disciples a task and they carried it out until they died.
That task, however, has not been accomplished and we can see that the world
has not been evangelized completely. As Jesus' disciples, now, we cannot
sleep, two thousand years have passed since the coming of Jesus and we
continue to be a minority and there are few true missionaries. Jesus is with
us but the will of God the Father is that our brothers and sisters who don't
know him, reach the Kingdom with our collaboration. The greatest thing can
we offer to someone is the Kingdom of God. If we cannot do this directly,
we can collaborate in many ways so that missionaries can go to every corner
of the world with the message of Jesus. Our collaboration cannot be only one
day but every day, but on this World Missionary Sunday we have to be
generous in prayer, sacrifice, invitation for others to collaborate,
gathering assistance for the needy, sharing our money and many other things
that the Holy Spirit may suggest. The important thing is that we don't fall
asleep. Our goal is that everyone of the world finally calls God: "OUR
FATHER".
The catechists invites the children to participate in this moment of
prayer: The notice board that everyone worked on is placed in the middle
and each one prays for the missions and the missionaries in so many
places of the world.
We will give thanks to God the Father because we know Jesus, because
there were intrepid and brave missionaries who brought us the Good News
and because of this we believe in Him.
We end saying the Our Father.
-
10-
Commitment.
-Every night I will pray for all the people of the world, so that the
message of Jesus may get to all men, women and children.
-
I will contribute with my savings to help the missions, on the World
Missionary Sunday of the Propagation of the Faith.
