Theme:

God the Father is looking for someone to take care of His vineyard.

  • Objetive :
  • That the children realize that they too are working in the vineyard of God, the Father.

  •  1-Environment:

Draw a Plant in the notice board and in place of the fruits, place sweets; one for each child.

  • 2- Greeting:

Dear children: Today Jesus speaks to us about a vineyard, that is a  field of grape vines and  about those in charge of taking care of that vineyard. Let us be attentive and we will understand what  Jesus wants  to teach us today.

  • 3- Renewal of commitment.

Did I help a needy person during the last week? Have I prayed that rich countries share what they have with poor countries?

  • 4- Prayer.

Dear Jesus: You teach us that God the Father is looking for someone to take care of his vineyard. We pray for the Holy Father Benedict XVI, all bishops and priests so that they take care of that field that you have entrusted to them. We also pray for all catechists, those who direct and teach your truth so that they may be faithful in communicating your message. We pray for ourselves, little missionaries, so that we might carry you in our hearts and do well what we have to do. Amen.

  • 5- Activity

Prepare three cards  with drawn fruits. Behind each card is written one of the following words: direct-teach-serve.

Each of the three cards are cut up into pieces to make puzzles. The children divided  into three groups will have the job of putting together the puzzle and discover the hidden word. When each group has discovered the word at the back of the puzzle, the catechist will talk about the caretakers of the vineyard; persons that God has chosen to do the task of directing, serving and teaching his people.

  • 6- Gospel

In the Gospel today we listen to a parable of Jesus. It has a lot to do with our Church. Let's read Matthew 21, 33-43

Jesus told the High Priests and the Elders of the town this parable: 'There was a man, a landowner, who planted a vineyard; he fenced it round, dug a winepress in it and built a tower; then he leased it to tenants and went abroad. When vintage time drew near he sent his servants to the tenants to collect his produce. But the tenants seized his servants, thrashed one, killed another and stoned the third. Next he sent some more servants, this time a larger number, and they dealt with them in the same way. Finally he sent his son to them. "They will respect my son" he said. But when the tenants saw the son, they said to each other, "This is the heir. Come on, let us kill him and take over his inheritance." So they seized him and threw him out of the vineyard and killed him. Now when the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those tenants?' They answered, 'He will bring those wretches to a wretched end and lease the vineyard to other tenants who will deliver the produce to him when the season ends'. Jesus said to them, 'Have you never read in the scriptures: It was the stone rejected by the builders that became the keystone.

This was the Lord's doing and it is wonderful to see. I tell you, then, that the kingdom of God will be taken from you and given to a people who will produce  fruit.'

  • 7- Reflexion

-What represents the vineyard in the parable that Jesus told us?

-Who are the bad vine growers in the parable?

-Who is the stone that is rejected by the builders?

-Who is the people that the vineyard is handed over to produce  fruits?

  • 8- Enlightenment

Jesus, speaking to the High Priests and Elders of the people, tells them that they haven't known how to lead, serve and teach God's people. How they stoned, persecuted, mistreated and killed the prophets sent by God. How the thrashed, killed and ejected the owner's son from the vineyard: the same Jesus. How Jesus, the cornerstone in the construction of the building, figure of God's people, was rejected by the builders. How the vineyard was handed over to other vine growers so that the may produce fruits. Today we are part of that vineyard, the world is that vineyard, in which, not only are the vine growers scarce but, sometimes, some do not work properly, they are interested in other things and neglect leading, serving and teaching the people of God. We are called upon do bear fruits and help  others to bear fruits. We have to be very united to Jesus, that He may be the stone that gives consistence and protection to our missionary labor. With Jesus we will do everything well, we should never separate ourselves from Him.

  • 9- Celebration

The catechist invites the children to pay attention to the notice board (Surely they would have looked many times and asked about the sweets). He invites each of the children to approach the plant that was drawn and take one of the sweets without unwrapping it. Everyone in a circle will recite the following prayer:

Jesus, just as that tree on the notice board have many "sweet fruits" we also want to bear fruits, but so they may be sweet to others, without the acid of selfishness, without the bitterness of envy, without the roughness of quarrels and fights. Jesus, you give us many  gifts but we don't always know how to recognize them. We ask that in your Church, the shepherds might be true servers, teachers and guides. That your Mother, the Virgin Mary may help them to be what you want. Amen.

  • 10- Commitment.

-Pray to Jesus everyday for the Holy Father and our Bishop, so that they may encourage priests and catechists to form groups of the Infant Missionary.

-In this missionary month,  make some sacrifice, pray more and share my money for the cause of the missions.
