Theme:
Jesus tells us that he will suffer, die and resurrect from the dead on the third day.
Objetive :
That the children understand that Jesus had to suffer, die and resurrect from the dead to be able to achieve his mission.
1-Environment:
Write the following in big letters on the notice board:
TO BE GOOD MISSIONARIES WE SHOULD BE LIKE JESUS.
2- Greeting:
Dear children, Jesus is the missionary of God our father. He came to achieve his mission which was not easy. He had to suffer, die and resurrect from the dead. Because of this, when we have problems, we should not lose faith in God, we are missionaries of Jesus.
3- Renewal of commitment.
Last week we were suppose to write a letter to Jesus telling him who he is for us. -Who did the homework?
-Who brought the letter and wants to share it with everyone?
-Who remembered to pray for those who still don’t recognize Jesus as God?
4- Prayer.
Jesus, you reveled that you were going to Jerusalem to suffer, die and resurrect from the dead to your disciples. We are your disciples also and we want to imitate you. We have to suffer and die like Jesus. We know that we are going to resurrect also. Give us courage to be able to announce your message with bravely and faithfully. Help all those who preach your message to do it well and without fear. Amen.
5- Activity
Give a copy of the following drawing to each child. In each of the obstacles that appears on the way, the children will put the name of something that could hinder the work of a missionary preaching the message of Jesus. The children should color the drawing and finally everyone will share what he or she has written.
6- Gospel
Jesus teaches us something very important to all those who help to announce the kingdom of God. Let us pay attention to the reading of the gospel.
Matthew 16, 21-27.
21 From that time Jesus began to show his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and on the third day be raised. 22 And Peter took him and began to rebuke him, saying, "God forbid, Lord! This shall never happen to you." 23 But he turned and said to Peter, "Get behind me, Satan! You are a hindrance to me; for you are not on the side of God, but of men." 24 Then Jesus told his disciples, "If any man would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. 25 For whoever would save his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. 26 For what will it profit a man, if he gains the whole world and forfeits his life? Or what shall a man give in return for his life? 27For the Son of man is to come with his angels in the glory of his Father, and then he will repay every man for what he has done.
7- Reflexion
-Why do you think Peter wanted to change what Jesus had to do?
-What do the words ‘ reject yourself, take up your cross and follow Jesus’ mean?
- What do the words ‘lose your life’ mean?
8- Enlightenment
Today Jesus has told us very important things and as we know his teachings are words of life that makes us act as Jesus did. Jesus said that those who want to be with him must do three things:
1) reject oneself, in other words, give up the ways of the world: pleasure, pride, comfort, selfishness,
2) take up your cross, in other words, thank God for what he has given us and live a simple life, and
3) follow Jesus, walking in the way of the Lord, giving joy, goodness and teaching about the kingdom of God. We must take into consideration one thing, that Jesus does not offer us honors and glory. Just like him we are going to have difficulties, obstacles even from people who love us and who we love very much. We should not fear if we trust in Jesus.
9- Celebration
Every one should stand in a circle.
Let us ask Jesus to enlighten us, to teach us to follow him and to carry our cross of every day with joy.
Every one say the Our Father.
9- Commitment
-Every night we should pray, saying JESUS, I WANT TO BE ALWAYS WITH YOU.
-I will help at home in things that I don’t like to do and I will offer it up as a sacrifice for the missionaries who are being persecuted for preaching about Jesus.
