21º Ordinary Sunday

- cycle A -

Theme:

Jesus is the Messiah, the son of God

  • Objetive :
  • That the children understand that it is important to have faith in Jesus.

  •  1-Environment:

Place on the notice board newspaper clippings of faces of people who are famous.

  • 2- Greeting:

Dear children, Jesus just as he did with his apostles, asks us who is he for us.

Have you asked yourself that question? If Jesus asks us that question, what are we going to answer?

  • 3- Renewal of commitment.

Revise the commitment from the week before. Let us see if everyone has put the image of Our Lady in an important place. Have you prayed for the orphans so that the Virgin Mary will protect them.

  • 4- Prayer.

Dear Jesus, we want to know you better so that we could talk to you and be able to tell everyone that you are our savior the son of God. Teach us to love others as you have done it. Amen.

  • 5- Activity

Give a sheet of paper with the face of Jesus in the form of a puzzle to each child. Each child has to color it, cut in pieces and then put it together. At the end of this task, the children will choose the best face of Jesus and place it in the center of the notice board.

  • 6- Gospel

Let us see what relation there is between what we have done so far with the word of the Gospel. Matthew 16, 13-20.

13 Now when Jesus came into the district of Caesare'a Philip'pi, he asked his disciples, "Who do men say that the Son of man is?" 14 And they said, "Some say John the Baptist, others say Eli'jah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets." 15 He said to them, "But who do you say that I am?" 16 Simon Peter replied, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." 17 And Jesus answered him, "Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jona! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven. 18 And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the powers of death shall not prevail against it. 19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven." 20

  • 7- Reflexion

What did Jesus ask his disciples?

What was the answer of Peter to Jesus? What did Jesus say to Peter?

  • 8- Enlightenment

Jesus was with his disciples and he asked them, who did the people think he was. The disciples said that some people said John the Baptist who was dead, others said Elijah, or other of the prophets. Jesus, asked them directly, And you, and who do you say I am ?This same question Jesus asks us especially when we are in doubt, when our faith fails. In this moment our answer should be firm and precise: Jesus, you are our God, you are everything for us, we are safe with you. Jesus told Peter that his answer did not come from him , it came from God. God puts the truth in our hearts and He shows us that Jesus is His son. If we believe this and proclaim it we would be happy. We should never confuse Jesus with someone else, as the people of his time did.

  • 9- Celebration

Everyone should stand in a circle and each one would say who Jesus is. Finally every one will sing a song. (The catechist will choose the song before hand.)

  • 10- Commitment.

-Write a letter to Jesus saying, among other things, who Jesus is for you.

-Pray for those who have heard about Jesus but do not recognize him as the true God.
