Sunday of lent

Lead us not into temptation.

Objective:

The children should discover how Jesus did his mission allowing the Holy Spirit to guide him.

  • 1)     Setting:

Draw in the notice board a long road with a lot of stones, torns, broken glass, fallen trees, small crosses with no writing on it.

  • 2)     Greeting:

Hello. Dear children, Jesus invites us to walk at his side. We should observe his actitude, his words.

Dear Jesus, you teach us  that God is our father and his love is much more than  that of  the best father.

Open the notebook and write the question: Did you fulfill your duty?. Then write yes or no according to if you did it or not.

  • 5)  Activity

The catequist prepares a big sheet of paper and starts asking the children and writing the answers:

What things would you like to have?.

What things would you like to do?.

Which persons would you like to be with?.

Let’s analyze the answers and put aside all those that we think Jesus would answer:.

  • 6)    THE WORD OF GOD

Now listen to the message that Jesus has for us today:

Matthew 4, 1-11.

At that time Jesus was led up by the Holy Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. And he fasted forty days and forty nights , and afterward he was hungry. And the tempter came and said to him:”If you are the Son of God, command these stones to become loaves of bread “ But he answerd. “ It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God”. Then the devil took him to the holy city, and set him on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to him,” If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down; for it is written , “He will give his angels charge of you and on their hands they will bear you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone”. Jesus said to him , “ Again it is written, you shall not tempt the Lord your God. Again the devil took him to a very high mountain , and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and the glory of them; and he said to him, “ All these I will give you, if you will fall down and worship me”. Then Jesus said to him, “Begone, Satan for this is written, you shall worship the Lord you God and him only shall you serve”. Then the devil left him and behold, angels came amd ministered to him.

  • 7) Reflection

-What does Jesus teach us with his words and actitude before  the tempter?

-What temptations do we have?

-Do we find any relation among the things  that we want and  the gospel  that we just heard?

  • 8) Enlightenment:

The temptation comes to sweeten ,  and to fatten our selfishness. We like to be powerful, intelligent, rich. We do not like to live hard time. We like  to have a  good time, and  nobody  should disturb us. The temptations are misconceptions and lies about the happiness which do not exist. Many people  fall into temptation  and end up in the slavery of vices like drugs, delinquency, anger, etc.

But Jesus, who is our master, he teachs us how  to resist the temptation.

  • 9) Celebration:

The catequist should have prepared a  poster with the word LENT, which will be placed on the notice board at the end of the prayer. Every child will get a cross cut out of white card board .

Standing in a circle everyone holding their cross will pray: Dear Jesus, you teach us to resist the temptations. We want to be near to you, so that we can have the experience of conversion, as  lent invites us. We have to take out many useless and disagreeable  things from our life. Please Jesus, help us , we are counting on you.

  •  10) Commitment:

The catequist explains : The cross made in card board  which  every one has received, is to be painted.

-When and how to paint it? .

Every time that we resist a temptation, you will paint a little part of it with a color.

-Will we be able to reach Easter with a  beautiful  cross all painted in colors?

I  hope so.

-Every night we will also pray  for those who are slaves of worldly things. In this way  Jesus will help them to recognize their slavery and come out of it.
