  " To be prepared "

bullet

Especific objective:

Get the children to think about the meaning of advent "to be prepared" and how to prepare themselves.

bullet

1)  GREETING

Greet the children and start the meeting with  this prayer:

Dear Jesus , you have taught us that God our father loves us all and he wants the best for all of us, who are his children. We  ask you to make us capable of  understanding the message that you are going to give us today so that in this way we could give the message to others.

Tell the children that Jesus  has something very important  to tell us  so we should have our ears and  our heart open to be able  to listen to him.

2) ACTIVITY

Game of  incompleted objects.

Each one of the children  is going  to get a card like one of the following. After a few seconds of observation , each one has to complete  and give utility to the object  or figure.

When  all the children have  finished, make  comments about  what they thought and  how   they finished the drawing.

3)     THE GOSPEL

Let’s pay attention to the Gospel according to Matthew, chapter 24, 37-44.

While we are listening to the gospel, let us contemplate the drawing.

“As were the days of Noah, so will be the coming of the Son of the man. For as in those days before  the flood they were eating and drinking , marrying and giving in marriage, until the day when Noah  entered the ark, and they did not know until the flood came and swept  them all away so will be the coming of the Son of the man. Then two men will be in the field;  one is taken and one is left. Two women will be grinding at the mill; one is taken  and one is left. Watch therefore,  for you do not know  on what day  your Lord is coming . But know this, that if the householder had known  in what part of the night  the thief was coming, he would have watched  and would not have let his house be broken into.”

 4)  MEDITATION

-Together we talk about  the passage we  have just read with the help of the drawing.

-Ask the children what they know about the flood. ( the catequist  should have   read Genesis chapters 6,7 and 8 before.

-Talk about  why Jesus said we must be prepared and  what must we be prepared for.

bullet

5) Catequist explanation:

Advent  means to be preapred, it could happen  that many people, many children are like those  uncompleted objects, but just as you all did, they could change and be useful. The word of God   is telling us about  the second coming  of  Jesus at the end of the world. The first coming was the day of his birth at Betlehem. Because of this, he asks us to be prepared and not to be uncompleted, to be prepared is to help others,to be good , charitable, solidary, respectful,  studious......sharing what we have and to be confident  in Jesus who is our best friend.

6)     Let us sing a song of Advent.

( before hand the catequist should choose a song)

bullet

7)     Celebration:

The  table could be decorated  with  a light and  some pine branches.

-Tell the children to write a petition in their notebooks  starting with the words: Come oh Lord Jesus ( because many people in the world  do not know Jesus.)

-As soon  as the petitions are ready, all the children should stand up and make a circle, each one will read  the petition out loud.

bullet

8)     Commentment for the week:

-Put a poster on the wall of their bed rooms  with these words: COME OH LORD JESUS.

-Every night before going to bed I  pray for all the children who do not know  Jesus, and because of this, are not waiting for him.
