19º Ordinary Sunday

- cycle A -

Theme:

Jesus teaches us how to pray and trust in Him.

  • Objetive :
  • That the children discover how Jesus chooses many occasions to talk to the Father alone and He invites us to trust in Him.

  •  1-Environment:

Place the following drawing on the notice board:

  • 2- Renewal of commitment.

How were the answers of the persons whom I asked the questions:

Which is the Kingdom of God which Jesus speaks about?

Have  you prayed every night for the children who do not know about God?

  • 3- Prayer.

Dear Jesus,  You never missed an occasion of communicating with the Father. Teach us to talk to Him, increase our faith so that we may not doubt when fear and difficulties surround us.

  • 4- Activity.

Before hand make copies of the drawing which was placed on the notice board. Give out the copies and ask the children to color them.  After coloring the picture, each child must place the answer to the question in the circle.  ‘What is he afraid of?’

  • 5- Gospel

Jesus brings us several new messages today, however we will take note of two particularly.  Let us listen:

Matthew, 14-22-23

At that time, right after the multiplication of the bread, Jesus made his disciples get into a boat and they made their way towards the other side of the shore, while he said goodbye to the people.  After saying goodbye to the people, he went to the mountains to pray alone.  When night came, He was all alone there.  Meanwhile, the boat moved farther and farther from the shore and the waves shook it because the wind was blowing in the opposite direction.  In the early morning, Jesus went towards them, walking on the waters.  When the disciples saw Him walking on the waters, they became afraid and said: “It must be a ghost.”  And they screamed in terror.  But Jesus immediately said to them, “It is I.”  Then Peter told Him: “Lord, if it is You, let me go to You walking on the waters.”   Jesus said to him, ”Come!”  Peter got off the boat and began to walk on the water towards Jesus.  But when he felt the force of the winds, he felt afraid and he began to sink and he shouted: “ Lord, save me!”  Jesus immediately stretched out his hand, held it and said, “Man of little faith, why doubt?”  As soon as they got into the boat, they lay before Jesus saying, “You are really the Son of God.”

  • 6- Reflexion

-What did Jesus do after saying goodbye to the people after the multiplication of the bread?

-While Jesus was praying, what did his Apostles do?

-How did  Peter show his trust in Jesus?

-What did the disciples say when Jesus and Peter got into the boat?

  • 7- Enlightenment

Jesus performed the miracle of the multiplication of bread and said goodbye to the people while the disciples went in the boat to the other side of the lake.  Jesus climbed up the mountain alone He began to pray.  Like Jesus, we need to be in silence, in peace to be able to talk to God our Father.  Jesus  did not stay to listen to the praises of the people because He had given them food to eat, instead He climbed the mountain to thank God for His kindness.  When He wanted to meet with His disciples, they were afraid until He spoke to them and made Himself known.  When Peter asked if he could walk on the water, Jesus encouraged him, but he became afraid and doubted.  His trust in Jesus was not complete and fear made him lose trust in the word of the Lord.  We are like Peter, our faith is little and that is why fear, sadness and other difficulties make us doubt the love, the confidence and security in God the Father.  We do not believe totally in His Word.

  • 8- Celebration

Each on of the persons present, with his or her drawing at hand, make a circle.  The catechist  invites the children to look at the drawing and what they have written on it so that they could  ask Jesus´ forgiveness for our fears and lack of trust in Him.  Each one reads out loudly what he or she has written.  Finally everyone says the Our Father.

  • 9- Commitment.

    - Every night I must pray for the Christians who have weak faith and who do not trust entirely in God the Father.

-I shall keep some of my money that I get during the weak to share it with a poor person.
