Theme:
Jesus feeds a crowd
-
Objetive :
That the children discover that Jesus not only taught but
also had compassion for those who had nothing to eat.
-
Environment:
Put the following questions on the notice board:
-
How are the children of Africa fed?
-
How are the children of India fed?
-
How are the children of Latin America fed?
-
How do I eat every day?
-
How much is my monthly allowance?
Dear children, today the gospel tells us about something
that Jesus did for the multitude of people that followed him.
-Have you prayed that someone will teach the children who
don’t know about Jesus nor about the kingdom of heaven?
-Did you ask others if they know which is the kingdom that
Jesus speaks about?
Dear Jesus, you fed many people. Today there are many
people who die of hunger, not because there isn’t enough food but because of
the selfishness of a few who prevents the solidarity and the sharing among
people. We ask you to help us to get rid of the selfishness and the hate in
our lives so that everyone will have the same rights to the necessary things
in life. Amen.
Give a sheet of white paper to each child so that
they can answer the questions written on the notice board. When everyone has
finished, discuss the following question: why do we have this problem in the
world? The catechist will write the answers of the children on the notice
board to help them with their commitment for the following week.
What we have done has a reason to be, pay attention
to Matthew 14, 13-21.
13
Now when Jesus heard this, he withdrew from there in a boat to a lonely place
apart. But when the crowds heard it, they followed him on foot from the towns.
14 As he went ashore he saw a great throng; and he had compassion
on them, and healed their sick. 15 When it was evening, the
disciples came to him and said, "This is a lonely place, and the day is now
over; send the crowds away to go into the villages and buy food for
themselves." 16 Jesus said, "They need not go away; you give them
something to eat." 17 They said to him, "We have only five loaves
here and two fish." 18 And he said, "Bring them here to me."
19 Then he ordered the crowds to sit down on the grass; and taking the
five loaves and the two fish he looked up to heaven, and blessed, and broke
and gave the loaves to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the
crowds. 20 And they all ate and were satisfied. And they took up
twelve baskets full of the broken pieces left over. 21 And those
who ate were about five thousand men, besides women and children.
Jesus
teaches us a lesson we should not forget, he tells the disciples
“you give them something to eat”. The disciples did not think Jesus
could feed all those people, so they wanted him to send the people
to other villages to get what they needed . That was difficult
because it was getting dark. Jesus feels the need of the people.
Jesus uses what they have: five loaves and two fishes. His love has
no limits, he looks up to heaven and blesses the food, breaks the
loaves and gives them to the crowd, and they all eat. Jesus invites
us to trust in God. He blesses everything we do for others. Jesus
invites us to be generous in sharing.
