1- Greeting
Today, Jesus invites us to listen to him, with a
very willing heart. He wishes the best for us and for this wish to
come true, our colaboration is necessary.
-
2- Renewal
of commitment.
-Who remembers the commitment we made last week?
-What would be Jesus' opinion of what we did?
3-
Prayer.
Dear Jesus: Today you invite us to listen to you carefully
because sometimes we get distracted. We ask that your word reach our heart
just as good seeds reach rich soil. Amen.
On a notice board the following drawing will be made
(rich soil, a path, rocks, thorns) like a board game. Each child is given
five seeds ( black peas, chick peas...). Each child in turn throws his seeds
on the board. The name of each player and the number of seeds that fall in
rich soil are written down. When everyone has finished the game the one who
has the most seeds on “rich soil” will receive his companions' seeds and
will keep them until later.

Jesus tell us that God the Father is the sower and he is
the good seed. Let us listen to the gospel of
Matthew 13, 1-23
That same day, Jesus left the house and sat by the
lakeside, but such crowds gathered round him that he got into a boat and sat
there. The people all stood on the beach, and he told them many things in
parables. He said, 'Imagine a sower going out to sow. As he sowed, some
seeds fell on the edge of the path, and the birds came and ate them up.
Others fell on patches of rock where they found little soil and sprang up
straight away, because there was no depth of earth; but as soon as the sun
came up they were scorched and, not having any roots, they withered away.
Others fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked them. Others
fell on rich soil and produced their crop, some a hundredfold, some sixty,
some thirty. Listen, anyone who has ears!'
Then the disciples went up to him and asked, 'Why do you
talk to them in parables?' 'Because' he replied 'the mysteries of the
kingdom of heaven are revealed to you, but they are not revealed to them.
For anyone who has will be given more, and he will have more than enough;
but from anyone who has not, even what he has will be taken away. The reason
I talk to them in parables is that they look without seeing and listen
without hearing or understanding. So in their case this prophecy of Isaiah
is being fulfilled: You will listen and listen again, but not understand,
see and see again, but not perceive. For the heart of this nation has grown
coarse, their ears are dull of hearing, and they have shut their eyes, for
fear they should see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with
their heart, and be converted and be healed by me. But happy are your eyes
because they see, your ears because they hear! I tell you solemnly, many
prophets and holy men longed to see what you see, and never saw it; to hear
what you hear, and never heard it.
'You, therefore, are to hear the parable of the sower. When anyone hears the
word of the kingdom without understanding, the evil one comes and carries
off what was sown in his heart: this is the man who received the seed on the
edge of the path. The one who received it on patches of rock is the man who
hears the word and welcomes it at once with joy. But he has no root in him,
he does not last; let some trial come, or some persecution on account of the
word, and he falls away at once. The one who received the seed in thorns is
the man who hears the word, but the worries of this world and the lure of
riches choke the word and so he produces nothing. And the one who received
the seed in rich soil is the man who hears the word and understands it; he
is the one who yields a harvest and produces now a hundredfold, now sixty,
now thirty.'
6- Reflexion
-What does Jesus compare to the word of God?
-What does “rich soil” mean in the parable?
-Do we see any relation between Jesus' message and the game
we played?
7-
Enlightenment
Jesus with his presence attracted the people and everyone
listened to him. Jesus didn't lose any occasion to tell the message of
salvation and so that everyone could understand he gave examples which
referred to country life and the work they did. In the gospel we are told that
he spoke about the seeds and the soil. He himself explained the meaning of the
parable so that, since we have understood, we can find out whether our heart
is, rich soil, or soil that does not allow the germination of any seed. We
close our eyes and think about which things don't allow the message of Jesus
be the most important thing to us.
He who yields a hundredfold, now sixty, now thirty, is the
capability of reply of each person, but most important is to produce good
fruits, which is what Jesus wants.
We gather around the table on which the Bible is
placed, we light the candle and the catechist invites the winner of the
game, the child who won the most seeds, to plant them in the flower pot.
Next he pours water from the glass and places the flower pot in a place
that receives air and light. Holding hands around the table we tell
Jesus: We give you thanks for the saving words you told us today. You
want us to be rich soil but sometimes we are hard soil, rocks and soil
with thorns. We want to be brave so that your word is not taken away
from us and we want to have you always as the most important. Help us,
you who can do anything. Amen
-
9-
Commitment.
-I will revise the ten missionary children's
commandments and I will try to obey them all, if I truly propose.
-I will pray for my companions so that the good seed
which is Jesus, reaches their heart and makes them happy.
