- cycle A -
Theme:
Jesus, the first one in our heart.
- Objetive :
That the child should come to realize that following Jesus and committing to him is a question of preferential love.
- Environment:
Place on the notice board a large heart and around this some small hearts.
1- Greeting
My dear children: Jesus talks to us today about the love for him in relation to others. We really don't know how to love and he wants to teach us how to live in condition of love.
2- Renewal of commitment.
Last week we learned that a missionary child is generous even if it costs him.
Did we have an opportunity to practice generosity with someone?
Did we remember to pray every night for those who are persecuted because of their faithfulness to Jesus and to the gospel?
3- Prayer.
Dear Jesus: You truly teach us, open our minds and heart to understand your message today, to know how we are to love in truth. Amen.
4- Activity.
The catechist takes the small hearts from the notice board and hands them over to each child. The children are suggested to write on the hearts that were given out, the name of someone that is most loved by each person. Everyone comments about the impressions they had on seeing the notice board for the first time, what each one thought. Next each reads out loud what he or she has written on the heart. The catechist asks what do they think about the large heart. If they don't guess, the catechist will tell them what is the love of Jesus. Next, after thinking a while, the children are told to place their hearts on the notice board, wherever they please. Ideally they should place the small hearts inside the large heart and if they don't, any explanation will be done in the part with enlightenment.
5- Gospel
What we have done thus far, has its reason, let us place close attention to the message of: Matthew 10, 27-42
Jesus said: 'Anyone who prefers father or mother to me is not worthy of me. Anyone who prefers son or daughter to me is not worthy of me. Anyone who does not take his cross and follow in my footsteps is not worthy of me. Anyone who finds his life will lose it; anyone who loses his life for my sake will find it. Anyone who welcomes you welcomes me; and those who welcome me welcome the one who sent me. Anyone who welcomes a prophet because he is a prophet will have a prophet's reward; and anyone who welcomes a holy man because he is a holy man will have a holy man's reward. If anyone gives so much as a cup of cold water to one of these little ones because he is a disciple, then I tell you solemnly, he will most certainly not lose his reward.'
6- Reflexion
-Why did Jesus say about who he loves his mother, his father, his son or his daughter more than him?
-What do we understand by taking our cross and following Jesus?
-Whom does Jesus say would not lose his reward?
7- Enlightenment
Jesus today gives us a very important message but it is necessary to understand it well. We have graphically seen on the notice board that the love of Jesus is the greatest of all. If anyone of you placed your little heart inside the big one, he understood the message. Jesus wants to teach us how we must love: that is, without selfishness, without monopolizing another, without manipulating another person, respecting others, always looking for their well-being.The love of parents and children is very important but we know that it must not intervene with the love of God. To carry the cross and follow Jesus is to love the will of God, to accept our reality which at times is difficult, as Jesus did. What ever one does for others is never lost and even if it is a glass of water that is given with love, will not remain without reward. In short, the love of Jesus will be then the force to know how to truly love others.
8- Celebration
Let us take from the notice board the hearts in which we wrote the names of our loved ones and forming a circle let us ask Jesus for the intentions of these persons
We end by saying together: Jesus, teach us to truly love, without selfishness, with respect, with liberty, with sincerity, seeking always the good of others. Amen.
9- Commitment.
-Write the 9th commandment of the missionary child with large letters:
'A missionary child searches for solutions and finds them'.
-Pray every night so that people will truly love each other, that there will be peace and the end to war in so many places in the world.
